About the Event
While public health officials work to limit the spread of COVID19, the American Red Cross and Embry Hills UMC are asking for your help with another potential public health issue: a severe shortage of blood for patients. EHUMC will host its regular ARC blood drive on Monday, April 27, from 2-7 pm, in the newly renovated Family Life Center. Blood donor drives are considered an essential service during the shelter in place order time period.
As of April 21, our appointment slots are filled! Healthy donors who are still interested in donating may have their name added to a waiting list to be contacted about spots that open up without having to leave their home and to avoid extensive waiting times. Please send an e-mail to Victoria to be added to the wait list. Due to safety measures in place to limit the number of people on-site, walk-ins will not be guaranteed a spot unless there are unused appointment time slots.
Folks in what are considered vulnerable groups during this pandemic are asked to consider carefully whether or not they should participate at this time. Thank you to the church staff and their families for covering all of the volunteer slots for this month’s drive.
We understand public health concerns, but want to stress that donating blood is a safe process and Red Cross blood drives have the highest safety standards. Here are just a few of our vigilant measures to protect the health of all involved in our blood drives:
- Donor and Staff temperature checks before entering drives
- Limiting # of people in each space area, including check-in and donation spaces
- Fewer appointments per 30 min. time slots than usual
- Spacing beds 6 feet apart
- Wiping down donor-touched areas
- Hand Sanitizer available
- Sterile Collection Sets
- Aseptic Scrubs on Arms
