Prayer Quilts

prayer quiltThe Shepherding Committee coordinates a Prayer Quilt Ministry for Embry Hills UMC. Members request quilts or quilt squares for friends and family with special concerns. Several requests have been made by members for adults and children outside of our congregation. Beautiful quilts are made and placed on the altar during worship. A few words are said about the person who will receive the quilt and everyone is invited to come tie a knot and say a prayer for the recipient. Smaller prayer squares and pocket sized prayer squares with a cross inside are also available.

My mother cherished the prayer quilt she received from Embry Hills. It gave her peace as she slept under it throughout her illness and recovery, and through the rest of her life.

Since 2006, we have given over 65 Prayer Quilts, 35 Prayer Squares, 15 Military Prayer Squares and more than 3000 Pocket Prayer Squares. This ministry has been very well received and continues to grow, so we always need people to help make quilts and squares. Classes to teach basic quilting skills are held at the church periodically. Check the Source newsletters for exact dates and times. You do not need to be a seamstress to be a part of this important ministry. It is about the prayers and reaching out to others in our church family and community.

Request forms for quilts and squares can be found on the table under the internal church “mail boxes.” Complete the form and put it in the Shepherding Committee mailbox. Pocket Prayer Squares are available to pick up in a basket under the mail boxes.
